Don't break Kansas law; together we can change it!
Our mission is to inform and educate our fellow Kansans about the history and numerous therapeutic uses of
medicinal cannabis/marijuana.
Please give. No donation is too small to help
a seriously ill Kansas patient
Predictably, despite the tireless efforts of volunteers and other supporters in several Kansas advocacy groups, medical cannabis legislation did not advance out of committee in either the House or the Senate during the 2012 Kansas Legislative Session, which is virtually ending as this is being written.
As Acting Director of the Kansas Medical Cannabis Network (medcankan), I see the upcoming lull in political activity in Topeka as the perfect opportunity to further raise awareness of the medical cannabis/marijuana issue among Kansas voters. We have a span of several months--basically over the summer and on through the November election--to enlighten and inform as many Kansas voters as we possibly can.
Fortunately, we know how to do that. We have knowledgeable speakers ready and willing to get out and talk to groups of likely voters around the state.
(This is how the highly-respected advocacy group, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition [LEAP] built itself into the powerful force it is today. I know this because as a volunteer during their formative years my primary task was to research and compile contact data for organizations that might be willing to listen to LEAP's controversial message. From our friends at the Drug Policy Alliance: Right now a bill is sitting in Congress that could end federal marijuana prohibition and protect the ability of states to make their own marijuana laws without federal interference. Please urge your legislators to end the federal war on marijuana!
Federal Persecution of Medical Marijuana and Patients Continues
Reneging on its February 2009 promise to end federal prosecution of medical cannabis dispensaries and patients, the Obama administration has instead increased federal
raids. Before we can expect to have any hope of success in our mission, federal law governing medical cannabis must be changed--beginning with the 'rescheduling' of cannabis/marijuana.
Under the Controlled Substance Act of 1970
, the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) has established a rating system.
This ''Schedule' designates every drug's relative safety and risk of abuse, with Schedule I being the most dangerous substances.
These drugs are considered by our federal government to have no known medical use. Heroin is on Schedule I. So is cannabis/marijuana.
Schedule II lists cocaine and methamphetamine as substances having limited medical value. By this logic, cannabis/marijuana is considered to be more dangerous than cocaine and methamphetamine!
Schedule I drugs are totally banned and cannot be prescribed at all, while far more dangerous drugs are legally available at every pharmacy.

Please contact the members of these committees TODAY and urge them to support medical cannabis legislation! For far too long, too many Kansans have suffered needlessly. That's the real crime.
